Friends of 1256 Mason Street
We’re excited to introduce Mason Street Friends—a neighborhood gathering hosted by the merchants located on Mason, between Jackson and Washington. In collaboration with our neighbors, we’ll each be hosting friends—fellow artists, designers, and small business owners to make this day a celebration of community. Join us on this rare occasion of coordinated shop hours and open studios. Come out to shop, eat, and enjoy live music!
For this inaugural Mason Street Friends, we’re delighted to showcase the work of Soft Geometry, Teaphile and Jessica Fu.
Soft Geometry is a collaborative design studio founded in 2019 by Indian designers Utharaa L Zacharias and Palaash Chaudhary. Their studio creates collectible objects around a central theme of softness. Their work intersects forming new, contemporary geometries, textures and transparencies, with slow and imperfect hand-worked techniques. Zacharias and Chaudhary often reference these ideas from the rich visual culture and hand-crafts of their hometowns in India and derive opportunities to bridge traditional and modern ways of making and seeing. They currently live and work between San Francisco, USA and Kochi, India.
For this Saturday’s event, Soft Geometry will be bringing their Elio voice-controlled smart lamps and Gola Donut Candles.
Teaphile strives to connect people through conscious awareness and mindful consumption, encouraging the enjoyment of life at a slower pace. Founder Annie Chen curates and sources small-batch handcrafted teas directly from family farms in China, predominantly from the Guangdong, Fujian, and Yunnan regions. Annie brews tea using the traditional preparation method of gongfu cha. Through this she carries on her heritage, a Chaozhou tradition, and shares the capacity of tea to encourage all to engage with their senses and stay in the moment.
For Mason Street Friends, Teaphile will be offering Phoenix Oolong Tea Cold Brew, 2014 Ancient Tree Sheng Pu’er. Teaphile teas are also available for purchase at Abacus Row.
Jessica Fu is a pastry chef and educator. Jessica graduated from the San Francisco Cooking School and has since worked in some of the city's best kitchens including Michelin starred restaurants State Bird Provisions and The Progress. In 2018, Jessica moved to Oahu where she became the Pastry Chef for the modern Vietnamese restaurant, The Pig and the Lady. These days she can be found teaching workshops, and consulting at Stonemill Matcha.
For this upcoming event, Jessica will be serving Stone Fruit Oolong Tea Cake, Oolong Tea Custard Snowskin Mooncake, Summer Fruit Galette, Walnut Snowball Cookie, Caramelized Onion and Cheese Pop Tart. A collaboration pie tea set of Blueberry Yuzu Meringue Pie and 2014 Ancient Tree Sheng Pu’er Dragonball) will also be available. There will be plenty available for walk-ups but preorder is also available here.
